Problems with order confirmation emails: Some customers have reported that they are not getting confirmation emails when they place an order. We believe that in many cases this is because they have email SPAM blockers installed that are stopping our emails. We know this is often true for users of AOL 9.0. Another possibility is that they have misentered their email address in their personal data.
Invalid credit card numbers: Unfortunately, if you enter an invalid credit card number, you will not get an error message on the web site, and you will get a confirmation email! If we can correct the error using information from a previous order, we will. Otherwise we will contact you by email.
Shortages of Kaffe's Fabrics: Periodically, there are shortages of some of Kaffe's fabrics. When this happens, we temporarily remove these fabrics from the web site. These fabrics have not been discontinued. They are just impossible to get for a while. Fabric availability changes from month to month. If you can't find a fabric you want, please check back in a month or so. It may be back in stock. Because of the shortages, we also temporarily remove some of our fabric packs. If you see a fabric or fabric pack on the web site, it should be available.
Fabric Packs: If you want to recreate one of the quilts in Museum Quilts or in one of the Rowan Patchwork and Quilting books as closely as possible, finding the right fabric can be fun, but it can also be time consuming. To help in this situation, Liza has selected bundles of fabric to make many of the quilts featured in these books. Fabric packs are priced as just the sum of the prices of the included fabrics.
Some of the quilts in Museum Quilts are made exclusively with Kaffe's own fabrics. We try to exactly duplicate the material used in these quilts. However, a few of the original fabrics are no longer available. In some cases, we have had to substitute Kaffe's newer fabrics for discontinued ones. Other quilts use many other fabrics in addition to Kaffe's. We stockpiled many of the original fabrics, and Liza has collected fabrics very similar to the originals to make up fabric bundles for those quilts. The bundles have all the original Kaffe fabric plus enough other fabrics, when necessary, to make a quilt top as close as possible to the one in the book.
In most cases, the fabric packs from the Rowan Patchwork and Quilting books, like Kaleidoscope of Quilts, contain the exact fabrics specified in the book. A few of Kaffe's fabrics used in the books have been discontinued. Where possible, Liza has substituted similar Kaffe fabrics for those no longer available.
Liza will put together custom fabric packs for most of the quilts from the various books upon request.
In addition to a fabric pack, you will need a copy of the appropriate book for the set of instructions, unless the fabric pack description states that instruction are included.
US Postage Rates: The shipping cost shown on your sales slip is only an estimate. We use Priority Mail from the US Postal Service for all domestic orders. Orders for up to six yards of most fabrics or for a single soft cover book will be mailed in a Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope for $4.80. However, some fabrics, like Kaffe's Ikat fabric, are bulkier than normal. A six yard order containing these fabrics may have to go in a more expensive regular Priority envelope. We will adjust postage cost accordingly.
The cost of larger domestic orders depends on the weight of your order and your location. In most cases, the shipping charge originally shown on your order will be correct, but in some cases, the shipping cost shown on your sales order may not be accurate. We adjust the postage for your order by hand when necessary. In almost all cases, a shipping cost correction will decrease the shipping cost.
The Postal Service has recently increased the cost domestic flat rate boxes to $9.80 and $12.95. These boxes often allow us to reduce the estimated postage for medium sized orders, particularly to the western states. The web site can't determine when these flat rate boxes apply, but we will use them whenever appropriate to reduce your cost.
MONITOR SETTINGS: To get the most accurate sense of what our fabrics look like, your computer monitor's Brightness and Contrast controls need to be set correctly. Brightness affects the darkest areas of your display. Contrast mostly affects the brightest areas. Adjusting these controls is easiest if you computer screen has a black background. Begin by turning both controls all the way up. Then, turn the Brightness down until the black area of your display goes completely dark. Finally, leave the Contrast up as high as you can stand. The pictures on our web site are intended for viewing on a high contrast display. The contrast control on your monitor should probably be turned all or nearly all the way up.For a more detailed explanation of this process with step by step instructions and test patterns, please visit epaperpress.com.
If your computer supports gamma correction, this feature should be turned off. Because many (most?) PC users can not control their gamma settings, we do not use gamma correction on our monitors when we scan the images. If you view these images with gamma correction on, they will appear somewhat brighter than they should. If you don't know what gamma correction is, don't worry; your PC is probably configured correctly. However, our pictures may appear overly bright to MacIntosh users.
AOL Users: Many of our catalog pages provide links to view enlarged pictures of each fabric. The enlargements appear in a separate popup window which should appear on top of the web page. In at least some versions of the AOL web browser, the enlargement window may get stuck behind the browser window. The easiest way to avoid this problem is to always close the popup window after looking at each enlargement. It is also possible to run Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser while your AOL program is connected to the internet.
If you are using AOL 9.0, the email SPAM blocker, which is installed by default, may block order confirmation emails generated by our web site. Please check your SPAM mail folder for our messages and mark them as "not SPAM". Then, future email from the web site will get through.
TEMPORARILY OUT OF STOCK ITEMS: Some of Kaffe's fabrics, particularly the stripes and solid Shot Cottons, are occasionally unavailable from the importer. When this happens, we temporarily remove these fabrics from the web site, but occasionally a fabric is overlooked. When placing orders, please be aware that we may not be able to fill all of your requests immediately. If you would like to cancel an existing order that has been delayed or have any other questions please email us at gloriouscolor@aol.com
HALF YARDS: It is possible to order partial yards, using the order forms on this site. Please order fabric in quarter yard increments. Odd sized orders (eg. 1/3 yard) may be delayed. Also, please do not use fractions when adding partial yards to your shopping bag. It won't work. For example, to order 3/4 of a yard, please set the quantity in your shopping bag to .75. Also please note that you must click the "Calculate" button immediately after changing each order quantity.
NON-US CUSTOMER SHIPPING INFORMATION:The shipping cost shown on your sales slip is only an estimate. You will always be charged only the price of the postage.
Our web site software does not calculate international postage correctly. For almost all international orders, the shipping cost shown for your order will be too high! We reduce the shipping costs for all international orders by hand. We apologize for this ongoing software problem.
International fabric orders up to six yards are mailed in US Postal Service Priority Mail International flat rate envelopes. A flat rate envelope costs $12.00 for all countries except Canada which costs $10.00.
There is also a Priority Mail International Flat Rate box costing $39.00 for all countries except Canada which costs $24.00. Depending on your location, flat rate boxes become economical for orders over about 15 to 18 yards.
If your order fits in a flat rate envelope or a flat rate box, the charges shown on your sales slip will be too high. We will reduce the charge to the flat rate by hand.
As you check out, please be sure to select your correct "Shipping Destination" from the drop down list box. The five locations are:
- USA
- Canada
- Europe
- Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, and China
- New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and Philippines
- South America
If none of these choices describes your location, please select "Australia...". As always, we will correct the postage cost by hand.
If you select the wrong shipping destination, the shipping cost shown on your invoice may be $0.00! We will automatically add the correct your postage to your cost by hand.
If you select the correct Shipping Destination, the charge shown on you sales slip will almost always be more than it should be. We will correct your postage cost before charging your credit card.
lthough international orders usually arrive within two to three weeks, they occasionally take much longer. We believe this is because of Customs Service delays in the destination country. You must allow up to six weeks for delivery before we will consider an order lost and replace it. Fortunately, this happens very, very rarely.
If your packages are returned to us because you refused them, declined to pay the import duties, or failed to pick them up from your post office, we will refund the purchase price of the fabric but not the postage cost.
